Thuja - Ghost Plants (2002)

Genre: Acoustic Freeform Psych Folk Drone
Label:
Emperor Jones (US)
Similar Artists: Pete Wright, The North Sea, Skygreen Leopards

Thuja released a lot records, all with untitled tracks and all of them with a beautiful organic athmosphere. For me it sounds always like a recording in a greenhouse.
Improvised dreamscapes with weird freeform freak outs and mantras. This is not rockmusic! Oh, and Glenn Donaldson of The Skygreen Leopards is part of that collective. Wonderful!

Ghost Plants is as savory and involved as improv music gets. It isn’t a sound effects record but should be. There are piano, guitar, percussion, electronics and other shit mingling freely but in a cohesive way.

  • 13 untitled tracks

We Are Wolves - Non-Stop Je Te Plie En Deux (2005), Total Magique (2007)

Genre: Post-Punk/Rock, Space Rock
Label:
Dare To Care (CAN)
Similar Artists: Trans Am

Energic Post Punk with heavy analogue synthie/organ, a bass player and a drummer. No guitar needed! Superb!
A gang of three, four including rock. We are Wolves imposes a music that's both free and honest, like the celestial lightning on the mystic mountain. It's a post-punk landscape filled with analogue trees. It's like rock after the post-modern explosion.

Chauchat - Upon Thousands (2007)

Genre: Indie, Folk, Shoegaze
Label:
YerBird (US)
Similar Artists: As if Galaxie 500 meets mid 80's Sonic Youth to play some early 90's Codeine

I'm really addicted to them since last year love sickness and maybe that's the theme of Chauchats music.
"I was interested in the relationship between sickness and love, as well as the idea that you could really come to know someone without ever having interacted with them," Whitney says. "It was an attempt to reverse the common songwriting process, which typically reproduces Hans' tactics of watching a woman from across the room, making her into a pure abstraction or idealization."
If you like them, you need to load the free self-titled album (with all lyrics) and you can download the full album Cardboard Projectors and The Homeless Shelter on last.fm. There are really some pearls on it! (EyelashMeganne (Natural Ice version)) Check this!

Klangstabil - Böhm Gott Der Elektrik (1997)

Genre: Analogue Old School Electronic, IDM
Label:
MHz (GER)
Similar Artists: Kraftwerk? not really :)

If you listen to their myspace, don't get confused. This record is different from their Electro/Industrial style.
These tracks are pure analogue electro sounds from one instrument, the Boehmat. Try it, it's fun!
machines like the "boehmat" are used as to compliment element (electronic harmony) for the musical surface. besides the tunes that sounded rather like a harmony, which were lined up in accords or in an arpeggiator rhythm, klangstabil offered, for the first time, the opportunity of demonstrating how easily the electronic drum could be used (which sounded so real!). these new possibilities were immedialtely understood and contributed ideally to a new kind of music, a music which continues to find more and more appreciation - electronic music. the old analogue drum machines, the ancestors of today's more advanced digital drum machines, opened up a new path for musicians who were, for whatever reason, unable to play the drums themselves. those machines offer completely new possibilities, along with a completely new sound.
klangstabil is trying to express through the boehmat that in spite of its age, this particular machine still has a lot of creative potential. one just simply has to appreciate it for what it is.

A Broken Consort - The Shape Leaves (2006); Crow Autumn (2007)

Genre: Drone, Freefrom, Psych Folk
Label:
Sustain-Release (UK)
Similar Artists: Thuja, TwinSisterMoon, Nature Snow Buildings

Shimmering freeform mantras on violin and sparkling guitar pickings. Very organic sound which make the time stands still. Checkout the labelwebsite to see the full beauty of his releases.
The music consists of long-spun acoustic soundscapes - drones and melodic repetitions, but with a great depth of sound. Most prominent are guitars, percussion, and various other bowed and strummed strings. The result is at the same time familiar, rooted in the earth, but also far from everyday experience. A wonderful musical depiction of the mystic depths contained in natural landscapes with only a hint of cultivation.

Kyst - Tar EP (2008)

Genre: Indie Pop, Folk
Label: Self release (PL)
Similar Artists: Grizzly Bear, Akron Family

I think this is recorded by one person, even if the band start as a trio. But the songs sounds very mature and good, you should give it a try.
Kyst started in Halden, Norway as an international three-piece (Tobias Biliński, multi-instrumentalist from Poland, Jens Kaupang from Norway and Pavel Dahle from Russia) and quickly became a one-person project due to different views on it’s style and direction.

The North Sea - Exquisite Idols (2007)

Genre: Psych Folk
Label: Type (UK)
Similar Artists: Metthew de Gennaro
The first 'proper' album from free-folk's international man of mystery Brad Rose. The Tulsa resident managed to peel himself away from Ugly Betty re-runs for long enough to record eight skewed slices of sing-along outsider pop. Get slightly drunk, and enjoy...
Exquisite Idols hovers somewhere between drone, folk, free improv and a sort of shattered Americana. On the release, he mixes field recordings, guitars, occasional vocals, banjo, and loads of clanging percussion and hazy washes. The space it inhabits is somewhere between the scratchy under-the-bridge folk of a group like The Blithe Sons and the reverb-drenched Songs Of Green Pheasant. Most of all, though, it doesn't take the paths that you quite expect, playing out with a series of passages that feel organic and loose, as if written deep in the woods somewhere.
See this post for another The North Sea album.
