Ejwuusl Wessahqqan - 1975 - s/t

Style: Krautrock, Improv
Label:Private Press/Garden of Delight ReRelease
Similar Artists:early Tangerine Dream, Amon Düül etc.

One of my favorite Krautrock records. While nearly every german jazzy/blues rock/heavy rock fart, pressed on vinyl from 1970-1978 is labeled as Krautrock, this is the "real" stuff.
Yes, these are completely stoned, improvised sessions recorded in a cellar onto reel to reel tape and pressed in a private edition of 300 records. Shitty rehearsal tracks just on drums, heavy organs and bass/filouphon. Very raw, I love it. Forget the Amon Düül crap ;-).
The rerelease comes with some additional tracks - recorded as Koala Bär (yes, it's maybe one of the first Bear bands ;-)), with some more organ improv, an folky psych song and electronic sequezer lines

Tracklisting
  1. Die Geborstenen Kuppeln Von Yethlyreom
  2. Die Orangefarbene Wüste Südwestlich Von Ignarh
  3. Thuloneas Körper
  4. Hobbl-Di-Wobbl

Physics - 1998 - Physics 1, 1999 - Physics 2

Genre: Post Rock, Space Rock, Electronic, Math Rock
Label:
Flapping Jet Records/Gravity records
Similar Artists: AshRaTemple, Tortoise, Trans Am

I think Epitonic.com introduced me to this band nearly 10 years ago.
Well, this Band doesn't exist anymore, but reincarnated into Aspects of Physics, a more electronic, but still outer space project.
Physics 1 is a compilation of live tracks and singles. They play a very spacey Post-Rock in vein of Krautrock groups like AshRaTemple or Can. Lot of synthie-swirrls, that special groovey drums, echoed guitars and endless space rock jams.
Oh and if you wanna see a website from 10 years ago and need more infos about the project, visit the old Bandwebsite

  1. Second 7 - Side 1
  2. Second 7 - Side 2

Anubian Lights - 1998 - Let Not The Flame Die Out, 2001 Naz Bar

Genre: Space Rock, 60ies Agent&Spy Lounge Soundtrack, Ambient Electronica, Dance
Label:
Hypnotic/Cleopatra (US), Crippled Dick Hot Wax (GER)

For the 100th post I've got something ehm special... not really, but it's my alltime fave. 10 years ago this retro-space-age revival was in full bloom. These „lounge sounds“, sampled sixties tunes mixed with some light beats, where played everywhere. Anubian Lights started as these traditional Space Rock projects in Hawkwind tradition, but turned to the light weight chilling tunes. Both records are the best. A cool mixture of space rock, pure sequencer electronics, some techno/electronic/breakbeats, sampled sixties tunes, spacey synths and grooves. Check it, it's fun!

Hey order Naz Bar for just 5 EUR the CD at the Labelwebsite!

Titan - 2007 - A Raining Sun Of Light & Love For You & You & You

Genre: Psychedelic Rock, Prog Rock
Label:
TeePee Records
Similar Artists: Hawkwind, Black Sabbath, Ashra Temple

Nice classic Psych/Prog-Rock, with that typical heavy guitars and organlines. The last track is more far away from that Prog Rock Sound because it sounds like the german NEU! and that is really refreshing beside that oldschool sound.

Tracklisting
  1. Annals Of The Former Work
  2. Hashishin Ohel Acide Cerveau Fracas Du RAyonnement Uchuu Iv
  3. Obelisk Orbit Overdrive

Droids - 1978 - Star Peace

Genre: Italo Space Disco
Label:
Cherry Red Records
Similar Artists: Aavikko, some 70ies disco music

The first two tracks seems to be the blueprint for Aavikko - Back From The Futer Album or Aavikko in general. That's the soundtrack your parents dance on! yes! Analogue Sequencers and synthswirrls - reminds sometimes on Klaus Schulze and a funky bassline + drums and that's the perfect soundtrack for some retro disco or for a tv documentary from the eighties.
PS: Aavikko new album is out, yhihaaa!

Mirza - 1997 - Anadromous

Genre: Free Form Psych Rock, Space Rock
Label:
Darla Records (US)
Similar Artists: Hochenkeit, Ash Ra Temple

Mirza is a Free-Form-Psych Rock group with members of Thuja and Skygreen Leopards (Glenn Donaldson).
Trippy Improvisations reminds on german Krautrock stuff like Ash Ra Temple and similar, check it out! More Information
Mirza, which means "royalty" in Persian, are a San Francisco quartet who play ghostly instrumental psychedelic sounds. This is their debut. It's like Magic Hour or Bardo Pond, if either of the aforementioned were from India. Perhaps they are the paisley side Rodan never had. The music is like lying on the grass in Golden Gate Park & watching the sun filter through the big evergreens while Jefferson Airplane blast away at an electric love raga with Ravi Shankar.
Tracklisting
  1. Dream of the Fosil Sea
  2. Aphasia
  3. Bless This Gathering
  4. These Are Our Last Days

We Are Wolves - Non-Stop Je Te Plie En Deux (2005), Total Magique (2007)

Genre: Post-Punk/Rock, Space Rock
Label:
Dare To Care (CAN)

Energic Post Punk with heavy analogue synthie/organ, a bass player and a drummer. No guitar needed! Superb!
A gang of three, four including rock. We are Wolves imposes a music that's both free and honest, like the celestial lightning on the mystic mountain. It's a post-punk landscape filled with analogue trees. It's like rock after the post-modern explosion.

The 63 Crayons - Spoils For Survivors (2007)

In former days The 63 Crayons playing some kind of sixties influenced Indie-Pop, always with some spacey synth swirls. With their last album they add a The in front of their name and go into a more darker, danceable, more psychoactive direction. Revolution Fight Song, reminds in the drumming style on of Montreal (and The 63 Crayons are from Athens, Georgia too ;-), Devils is a dark floating number. Save us kicks you completly out of this world. This is a perfect space trip and the bouncing beat in style of The Can Drummer Jaki Liebezeit show their roots in some ways. (There is a bit longer version named Heal us on a compilation called „Death Before Distemper 2). This is a really great record! Dancing don't Trust!

Label: Self Release?!
Genre: Indie, Psychedelic, Post-Punk, Space-Rock

The Skygreen Leopards - Jehovah Surrender (2005)

Genre: Freak Folk, Psych Rock
Label: jagjaguwar (US)

My favorite Skygreen Leopards record. This is special because of the raw sounding Psych Rock they played here. Fuzzy bass, the strange singing voice by Glenn Donaldson and Donovan Quinn and drums that sounds always delayed from the rest of music and a bit awkward but very well played.
Electric guitar howl like a farmers hound, fuzz bass stampedes, and drums trot and gallop like the finest of wild horses. Donovan & Glenn write: "Not long ago the band was visiting a friend in Port Costa, CA. After sharing a bottle of wine and enjoying the moonlight dances of his two daughters--the friend wanted to share a secret. He pulled an oversized key out of his overalls pocket and lead them out back to his shed. In the shed was an ancient drumset and a cobwebby electric guitar. The man said he knew Arlo Guthrie and that he was once in a band called "Hobo Splendor". Well thats all it took for the Skygreen's to lose their hearts and heads to a new muse. We played "All the Young Dudes" and "Hobo Jesus Blues" all night long and the daughters danced ballroom. This e.p. is inspired by the man from Hobo Splendor--get better my friend!"
Tracklisting
  1. Jehovah I Surrender
  2. Julie-Anne, Patron Of Thieves
  3. Play For The Spring
  4. Apparition Of Suns (A.K.A. The Ferryman's Long Arms)

Domotic - Ask For Tiger (2005)

Genre: Electronic, Space-Pop
Label: Active Suspension
Similar Artists: Bidibop, Köhn

Wonderful digital Pop Music. Sweet and sour. Distorted harmonies, grained acoustic guitars, drumboxes and nice songwriting. Turquoise/Trotzdem at example turns from a ballade into a electronic sequenz which is so far out and reminds on early 70ies Krautrock electronics in the best sense and merge finally into a drum driven electro space rock track full of swirlling noise. And see the great nerd video at bottom of this post ;-)
It is definitely a songwriter’s record, also. It is full of stupid melodies to get all emotional. Full of guitars to knock your head off. Full of noise for exultation. It is also tinted with an urge to create new forms, new means, to fulfill envies, methods of work. There are, eventually, stories to be heard, whether in the form of cryptic lyrics or barenaked melodies.
