63 Crayons - Spread the Love EP (2002) + Good People (2004) + Here Comes the Crayons EP

Genre: Indie Poop, Psychedelic, Space-Folk
Label: Happy Happy Birthday to Me (US)
Similar Artists: early of Montreal, early Pink Floyd, Elephant 6 collective stuff

The first records by the 63 Crayons are typical E6 Sixties Indie-Folk-Pop-on-a-4-track-tape with the difference of their use of some nice synthy- and theremein-sweeps and swooshes. It's really fun to listen to and their only aim is happieness I would say! Lot's of psychedelic effects like backward sounds, organs and refrences to early Pink Floyd, uuh uuh - aah aah's - bababahhs. Popcorn could be written and performed by Syd Barret, yes! So check out! And don't miss their great last LP posted here and here some youtube

Christina Carter & Andrew MacGregor / My Cat Is An Alien - From The Earth To The Spheres Vol. 4 (2006)

    Label: Very Friendly, Opax
    Genre: Avantgarde, Free Folk, Noise

"Brothers Maurizio and Roberto Opalio split this forth release in the series with the American queen of psych-free-folk music Christina Carter (Charalambides, Scorces), here at her debut as the new duo-project together with Andrew MacGregor (Gown). Harsh yet warm plucking at the strings and her fascinating vocals, accompanied by Andrew’s bass guitar chords and singing, sound as if the listener was called to witness the secret dialogues between two distant lovers’ hearts. The title of MCIAA’s track, “The circle of life & death”, fits as ever before Roberto’s cover painting, where the dark imprints left by a white leaf on the acrylic-colored wooden surface create a circle-like representation of life and death. As the violet color recalls transcendence indeed, so do the opening floating-guitar tunes and Roberto’s wordless-vocal hymn." (label info)

    Köhn - (Köhn)² (1999)

This CD starts with an obscure and melancholic sounding tune/loop of a South german Brass band and turns fastly in a digital noisy drone. The next track is a clicking scribble of a pop song and so it goes on with digital mush, glitches, melodies, skipping CD sounds, loops, dance beats, acoustic guitars and so on. All recorded on a MiniDisc 4 Track Recorder - Sounds like Laptopmusic, but it's not at these times. The record ends with a catchy deconstructed pop tune. And I thought I would never see the Sun again, oh no...

Avia Gardner - Mill Farm (2006)

Mill Farm's spare low fi beauty leads into the world of broken folk tunes into the sound of Jenna Robertson's voice,  acoustic instruments like guitar, harmonium, autoharp and others + the minimal use of drum machines and computer mystery. The creaking songs work perfectly with their childlike quality, simple arrangements, light sonic interludes, always keeping the acoustic character. Dusty songs of some strange beauty.

    Some more Info:
Slippery ambient soundscapes, gurgles, and and rhythmic guitar vibrations abound.
Ribbon Effect was formed in 1998 by Bill Talsma, Jacob Ross, and Danielle Malkoff, who met while working at Chicago's Experimental Sound Studio. The band produced their first self-titled recording combining the practice of studio manipulation with live performance in June, 1998. 1999 saw this four song EP followed by Danielle contributing the vocals to "Seafrance Cezanne" on Tarwater's Silur album, and the recording of more Ribbon Effect material. Later the same year, the band collaborated with visual artist Joel Ross on Slip, a multimedia show held in Chicago. Slip's presentation combined the trio's live performance with six video monitors projecting moving images that centered on an unidentified urban landscape.
This year, the instrumental tracks originally composed for the series of live performances were enhanced and recorded in the studio for SLIP, Ribbon Effect's debut full-length CD. The band's music is haunting and cinematic, alternately evoking stasis and motion. An interplay of chiming guitars, dub-inflected bass, lingering keyboard melodies and electronics gives way to desolate tones and barren soundscapes, which in turn evolve into pronounced rhythmic patterns. At times, SLIP recalls the exploratory studio excursions of Fridge, Pluramon, Pan American, Augustus Pablo, This Heat, and Rome. At times it does not. Enjoy!
